Onondaga Lake Parkway reopens after tractor-trailer strikes railroad bridge

Salina, N.Y. — The Onondaga Lake Parkway reopened late Monday evening after a tractor-trailer hit the CSX railroad bridge.
The crash was reported at about 7:50 p.m. The roadway reopened about two hours later.
The tractor-trailer was headed east on the parkway towards Syracuse. The roof of the cab and the top of the trailer appeared to have collided with the bridge.
Eighteen traffic tickets were issued to the driver — Harmanjot Singh, 25, of Canada — according to Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
The tractor-trailer was operated by Ideal Logistics Group, which is based near Toronto. The company has 81 vehicles and 85 drivers, according to records from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Commercial vehicles of all heights are banned from the parkway, but there have been repeated collisions with the bridge. Clearance under the bridge is 10 feet 9 inches.
“Bridge is still undefeated at this point,” a dispatcher told paramedics as he warned them of the parkway’s closure.
About 22,000 vehicles travel the parkway on an average day, according to data from the state Department of Transportation.
