Denny’s is closing 150 restaurants by 2025, slimming down menu

Denny’s is closing 150 restaurants by 2025, citing “underperforming locations.”
The company, which plans to close 50 restaurants by the end of 2024, stressed that it wants to improve its cash flow, according to a presentation during the company’s investor day on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
The restaurants that are closing are shutting down for a myriad of reasons. They are either too old to remodel or are located in areas that aren’t profitable.
“Some of these restaurants can be very old. So when you think of a 70-year-old plus brand, you have a lot of restaurants that have been out there for a very long time,” Denny’s EVP and chief global development officer Stephen Dunn told investors at the meeting, according to USA Today.
The chain has also implemented other cost-cutting measures, such as cutting back on its 24/7 hours and downsizing its menu. The number of menu items have downsized from 97 to 46.
Denny’s has not yet stated which restaurants are set to close as of Thursday.
There are currently 1,358 Denny’s restaurants in the U.S., according to the company’’s store locator.
